As nature has enabled Japan to be the first country to bask in the crimson rays of the rising Sun, her socio-political history has also show unique features. She had undergone a transformation from a backward feudal state to a capitalist state and then to an imperialist country. The text is not a mere chronology of facts, but critical analysis done in a simple language and lucid style.

This text book is the first of its kind written in English by any Indian author. Though it is written with an eye to the syllabi of Indian universities, the lucid style of writing is sure to attract the general readers also. The English renderings of the Japanese words and the map of Japan have made the book more useful to the students in general.
