Abhra Ghosh

Abhra Ghosh, a retired professor of political science and sociology, is widely acclaimed as a distinguished essayist; he was the founder-editor of the now-defunct journal Bitarkika and is currently the editor of the heritage magazine Parichay. To date, he has authored twelve original collections of essays and edited fourteen volumes, and has also collaboratively translated and edited Nationalism by Rabindranath Tagore.

Ajit Chakraborty: In the words of the author Ajit Chakraborty, families like his do not record dates of birth. This seventy-plus “youth” was born in present-day Faridpur, Bangladesh, into an ordinary middle-class family. Although he pursued postgraduate studies in physics, he did not appear for the final examination. Since the 1970s of the last century, he has been a full-time political activist and remains, even today, deeply stirred by dreams of a new dawn.

Alpa Shah

Alpa Shah is the Statutory Professor of Social Anthropology at Oxford, with a Fellowship at All Souls College. Her research and writings span many themes, including revolutionary insurgency, state and citizenship; terrorism, democracy and human rights; global capitalism, inequality and poverty; agrarian change, precarious labour migration and informal economies of care; indigenous politics, conservation and environmental justice; race, caste, class and gender relations. Much of Alpa’s writings are based on the experience of deep immersive field research among the forest-dwelling indigenous people of eastern India – Adivasis. She has also conducted research in Nepal and among Dalits, stigmatised as Untouchable people.

Amitava Chatterjee is Head and Professor of History at Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol, West Bengal. He has teaching experience of over 15 years in UG and PG level. His areas of interest are sports history and cultural studies, and his research thrust is the evolution of sporting culture in Colonial Bengal. He was in charge of Controller of Examinations (Additional Charge) at Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol from August’2016 to October'2017. He has edited few books viz. Itihase JanaSanskriti: Porishare Unish Bish Shatak, Gender & Modernity, People at Large: Popular Culture in Modern Bengal and People at Play: Sport, Culture and Nationalism and written extensively in reputed journals of India and abroad.

Anindya Jyoti Mazumdar

A Graduate from Presidency College, Kolkata, in Political Science, Dr. Anindya J. Majumdar holds Ph.D. degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi where he specialized in Disarmament Studies. He teaches and supervises research studies in Jadavpur University, Kolkata as a Reader in International Relations. He had been a Research Consultant with the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, New Delhi. He visited the University of South Carolina, USA, as a Fulbright Fellow (2003) and attended various other international schedules, including Regional Defence and Cooperative Security workshops in Shanghai (1998) and Colombo (1999). Apart from writing in journals and contributing to various compendia, he has authored a book.

Annadashankar Roy

Annadashankar Ray was a renowned Bengali poet and essayist. He was born in Dhenkanal in Orissa. He graduated in English from Ravenshaw College. He topped the list of Indian Civil Service examinees in 1927. After serving in various administrative posts, he sought voluntary retirement in 1951 to devote himself to literary pursuits. Ray was a Gandhian in politics, and Rabindranath Tagore inspired his literature. As an essayist, he was urbane and sophisticated and combined in his craft two different styles of prose, represented by Tagore and Pramatha Choudhury. He received the Vidyasagar Smriti Award from the state government and the Padma Bhushan. He was made a fellow of the Sahitya Akademi in 1989. The Visva Bharati conferred on him the Desikottama and an honorary D.Litt. He also received the Rabindra Puraskar, the Ananda Puraskar twice and the prestigious Zaibunnisa Award of Bangladesh.

Aparajita Dhar is an Assistant Professor at Burdwan University, West Bengal, India. Her main areas of interest are History of Medicine, Gender Studies, Social and Economic History of Modern India, and Historiography Methodology. She completed a PhD on The Advent of Gynaecology: Western Medicine and Women in Colonial Bengal. Currently pursuing Post-Doctoral Research on the History of Nursing in Colonial India
