Sthanantar O Bipannata

This book examines the interrelationship between migration, displacement, and security in India, arguing that migration is not merely an economic or social issue but is deeply intertwined with questions of security—especially human security, understood as the protection of individuals and communities, and broader concerns of social justice; using examples from India’s northeastern region, it demonstrates how state measures such as military deployment along borders, refugee camps, and stringent citizenship laws often push migrants and displaced populations into heightened vulnerability, producing a “cycle of insecurity” in which state policies themselves render people unsafe, and in doing so, the book challenges dominant notions of security that dismiss the protection of migrants and instead frame them primarily as security threats.
